This study aimed to assess the grammar skills of
the first year students enrolled in Purposive Communication subject.
Specifically, it answered the following research problems: 1) What is the
demographic profile of the students in terms of age, sex, school graduated
from, and course; 2) What are the English grammar skills of the respondents; 3)
Is there a significant difference in the English grimmer skills of the
respondents when grouped according to profile.
This study employed the Descriptive Research Design and Stratified
Random Sampling (proportional). It also used a combination of researcher-made
and standardized questionnaires. The data was analyzed using Frequency,
Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation, and Pearson’s Chi-square.
The findings revealed that majority of the
respondents belonged to ages 19-20 years old, female, graduated from private
schools, and enrolled in the College of Nursing. The result also divulged that
the respondents belonged to the Advanced level in grammar skill, with an
average mean of 13.4. This study further
showed that there was no significant difference in the grammar skills of the
respondents when grouped according to profile.
